Adhar Card Revealing Document’s Limitations Now!
It has been clarified that Adhaar cards and digital counterparts are “proof of identity, not of citizenship or date of birth. The clear disclaimers advise government organizations, not to verify citizenship or age using Aadhaar. Departments presently recognize Aadhaar for adult and citizen services, even though foreign citizens can receive it after six months in India.
Removed Aadhaar as Proof of DOB
According to a January 2023 directive, at least one significant organization-the Employee Provident Fund Organization ceased to accept Aadhaar as verification of date of birth. Aadhar was removed from the list of approved documents by the retirement fund administrator.
Long-Standing Regulations Now Visible
There have long been laws prohibiting the use of Aadhaar to verify citizenship or age. It was initially made clear in a 2018 government document that it was invalid as proof of DOB. Agencies were informed by a UIDAI circular and a court order from last year that the disclaimer is now a conspicuous feature on all cards.
Effects Of Election Commission Policy
For instance, the Election Commission permits voter registration using Aadhaar as verification of date of birth. This and other perks are called into question by the prominent warning on Aadhaar cards. Additionally, the new cards advise using the Unique ID Authority’s QR code or XML file exclusively for offline Aadhaar verification.
Only Uniqueness And Residency Verification
Although the 12-digit number Aadhaar is used by Indian individuals to prove their unique identity and place of residence, it is not a reliable way to verify citizenship or birthdate. However, some government agencies presently recognize stand-alone Aadhaar as adequate citizen identity documentation.
