DHCBA – Lawyers should not be brought under Consumer Act

The Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) protest against the proposed framing of rules to include lawyers under the ambit of consumer act 2019.

KC Mittal, the chairman of the Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) had written a letter on the matter to the Union Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan mentioning the disagreement against the proposal.

Mittal wrote, according to the information available, your ministry is framing rules under the act and wants to secretively include lawyers under the jurisdiction of the consumer redressal forum.

The lawyers across India will never accept their inclusion under the definition of the provisions of the consumer protection act saying the move is highly disgraceful.

The members of the DHCBA wore white armbands on Thursday to protest against the move.
