Uddhav Thackray, the president of Shiv Sena said that reciting the National Song of India,  Vande Mataram, should be made compulsory by the law.

“If you want to hoist the national flag of India then you must sing the national song of the country. And singing the national song of India must be made compulsory by law,” said the chief of Shiv Sena, Uddhav Thackeray.

“There should not be display of false pride. There should be stringent laws to ensure Vande Mataram is being sung. Nationalism shouldn’t be just part of January 26 (Republic Day) and August 15 (Independence Day) celebration but should be part of your life and it should be sung everyday,” added Thackeray.

Thackeray was speaking at the 57th anniversary event held at Dinanath Auditorium in Vile Parle, of Marathi weekly cartoon magazine ‘Marmik’, founded by his father, Sena supremo late Balasaheb Thackeray. Two AIMIM legislators who did not consent to say Vande Mataram and strongly refused during the monsoon session, without naming AIMIM, Thackeray questioned, “If you won’t sing the national song of the country where you have been living, then which flag you would hoist? Why are you opposing to salute this land?”
