What Is A Consumer Court?
Consumer Courts which are also known as National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) are special purpose courts that deal with consumer disputes when a consumer files a case against a seller when a consumer finds being cheated and exploited by the seller through a product or a service paid by the consumer to the seller.
Types Of Consumer Courts In India-
The Consumer Protection Act that was passed in 1986 (COPRA) provides for the formation of consumer quotes in India and under the act there are three types of consumer quotes in India-
District Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum (DCDRF)-
The district consumer Court is the authority that takes all kinds of consumer disputes where the claim for compensation by the appellant does not exceed ₹20 lakhs.
State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission (SCDRC)-
The state consumer court operates at a state level and takes in all kinds of consumer dispute matters in which the claim for compensation by the appellant does exceed beyond ₹20 lakhs but does not exceed beyond 1 crore.
National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission (NCDRC)-
The NCDRC is the Apex court that takes all kinds of consumer dispute matters where the claim for compensation by the appellant goes beyond one crore rupees.
