What Is Europe’s First Menstrual Paid Leave Law Passed By Spain All About?
Spain recently have become the first European country to pass a Menstrual Paid Leave Law. The sanctioned law now allows women in Spain to take paid leave during their periods.
Menstrual Paid Leave Law apart from Spain exist in very few countries around the world that include Zambia, Japan and Indonesia.
Employees in Spain usually needed to submit a medical certificate in order to claim a three-day long leave but this condition has been relaxed for the women now.
The Supreme Court of India too has heard a case related to menstrual leave on February 24 this year, however, the said Law is not prevalent in the country except a few states like Kerala.
The Necessity For The Law –
Although the Parliament in India is yet to take up the subject of menstrual paid leave law, researchers at London University conclude the pain a female undergoes while menstruating is equal to the pain suffered by a person during heart attacks.
