Why Did Canada Abruptly End Visitor Work Permits?
As of August 28, 2024 Residents in Canada who are temporary visitors to Canada holding a visitor visa can no longer apply for a work permit within Canada.
This abrupt change marks the end of the policy to work in Canada on a visitor visa that was originally introduced in the year 2020 (August) to the visitors who were stranded in Canada due to Covid-19 travel bans.
Why Has The Canadian Government Ended Work Permit On Visitor Visa?
The policy to allow visitors to work in Canada on a visitor visa that was initiated in year 2020 was set to expire on February 28, 2025, but the early end to this policy is due to the misuse of it.
According to the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the IRCC have received reports that the policy was being misused by some individuals in Canada coaxing foreign nationals visiting Canada to work in Canada without proper authorization.
In order to tackle the ongoing immigration fraud and manage temporary resident levels in Canada, the abrupt move to end the work permit on visitor visa was urgently needed.
Are Existing Applications Too Going To Be Affected By This Abrupt Ending?
No! Applicants who’ve applied under the policy before August 28, 2024 their applications will be continued to be processed as usual.
