Call for Papers for Volume XII, Issue II of the NLIU Law Review 2023

ABOUT THE JOURNAL

The NLIU Law Review is the flagship journal of the National Law Institute University, Bhopal. It is a peer-reviewed academic law journal, published biannually by the students of the University. The Law Review aims to promote a culture of scholarly research and academic writing by bringing to the forefront, articles on subjects of interest to the legal profession and academia.

ABOUT THE SYMPOSIUM 

The NLIU Law Review is pleased to announce the third edition of the NLIU – India Foundation Constitutional Law Symposium, 2023 which is to be organized from 22 – 23 April, 2023. The aim of the Symposium is to provide a platform for discussion on contemporary constitutional law issues in India. The event consists of a paper presentation competition and multiple panel discussions held over a period of two days. The manuscripts shortlisted for the symposium shall be published in a special theme based Issue.

THEME

The overarching theme for this Issue is “Individual Rights vis-à-vis the Constitutional Order“.

SUB THEMES

1.Technological Advancements, Individualism and Fundamental Rights

    – Technology & the right to privacy: The new draft Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, 2022
– Revisiting Article 19 in the age of social media
– Academic freedom in the context of right to education

  1. Individualism with regard to the Right to Freedom of Religion

    – Anti-conversion laws and personal autonomy
– Same sex marriages and inter-religious marriages (right to choose one’s partner)
– Examining Uniform Civil Code and personal laws through the lens of individualism
– Freedom of speech and blasphemy laws
– Constitutionality of religious practices

  1. The Spirit of Constitutionalism, Good Governance and Collective Justice

    – Role of judiciary in good governance
– Balancing judicial accountability and judicial independence within the constitutional framework
– The right to equality and affirmative action in context of the recent judicial pronouncements
– Re-examining the scope of judicial review in the Indian constitution
– Re-imaging the doctrine of separation of powers for the 21st century

Note: The sub-themes and topics mentioned thereunder are suggestive in nature and manuscripts that fall under the ambit of the overarching theme will also be considered for review. 

GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS

Types of Submissions accepted by the NLIU Law Review:

Manuscripts on any topic of contemporary legal relevance based on the theme for the Issue meeting the below-mentioned criteria:

The word limit is exclusive of the abstract and the footnotes.

All the submissions are to be made only through the electronic form available at nliulawreview.nliu.ac.in on or before 23:59 hours on February 26, 2023.
