Delhi Govt Gets Clearance For Power Subsidy For Lawyers With Chambers In Court Complexes

Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal has approved a government proposal to provide power subsidy to lawyers who have chambers in the capital city’s court complexes.

So far lawyers were denied any power subsidy since they were being categorized under non-domestic category. The power subsidy proposal had been a pre-poll promise made by the Aam Aadmi Party in 2015.

In its order, the power department said that the electricity subsidy will be extended to all individual lawyers having their chambers inside court premises in NCT of Delhi.

It said that under the special subsidy plan, the lawyers will receive subsidised  tariffs available under the domestic tariff category for the financial year 2017-18 (with effect from October 1, 2018, to March 31, 2018).

According to a senior government officer, the Delhi cabinet had approved the proposal granting the subsidy in October this year.

Under the scheme, those who consume up to 400 units will be eligible to get 50 per cent subsidy on their bills. Nearly 90 per cent of the consumers (around 36 lakh) in the national capital region are currently benefiting by the scheme.
