Two policemen from Bihar, both of whom are leading office bearers of the state police association, have been dismissed from service for consuming liquor and creating nuisance while in an inebriated condition.

The two dismissed officials are Bihar Police Men’s Association (BPMA) President Nirmal Singh and General Secretary Shamsher Khan, and both were of the constable rank.

Both were charged with consuming liquor and causing disturbance in the new police line complex in Patna in May this year.

Case Filed Under New Excise Law

After a case was registered in the Buddha colony police station against them, they were arrested  on May 4, and sent to jail under the provisions of the new Excise Act that bars sale and consumption of liquor in Bihar.

Patna City SP D Amarkesh told press that the Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) had terminated the two officials from service in relation to a case of “creating nuisance after consuming liquor at the police line”.

Amarkesh, currently officiating as SSP, Patna, stated that the decision had been taken a few days ago by the SSP who was presently on leave.

The Nitish Kumar government in Bihar had enforced statewide prohibition in April 2016.  New legislation introduced against alcohol contains provision for dismissing government employees from service if found guilty.
