In order to suppress the transmission of the highly communicable coronavirus, the state government has decided to release around 1,500 prisoners from about 14,000 lodged in 33 jails across Ahmedabad.
In order to decrease the inmate density inside the prisons by reducing the number of prisoners can help reduce the threat of inmates getting infected by the virus,a high-power committee led by the Gujrat High Court Cheif Justice has proposed to take action on the same, said Additional DGP Jails, K L N Rao.
The said proposal has been accepted by the government and the release of 1200 undertrials by granting them temporary bail will be done.
About 300 convicts will be granted parole or furlough up to a span of 45 days.
